Raleigh FIST Statement on March 23 Action at Wake County School Board
Posted by raleighfist on March 30, 2010
Raleigh FIST supports all of the efforts by students in Wake County and community leaders to resist the re-segregation of the Wake County Schools. We applaud the courageous sit-in led by Wake County High School students in the best traditions of the struggle against racism and segregation. We also fully support the efforts of Great Schools in Wake, the NAACP, and all those seeking diverse quality education in Wake County.
In order to move forward and overturn the recent vote by the 5 new board members, we must continue to work together to fight for quality desegregated schools in the meeting rooms, at the ballot box, in the courtroom, and in the streets. We must continue to connect the dots and speak truth to the power behind the new school board majority, which seeks to dismantle public education in favor of privatization and charter schools. Quality education for EVERY CHILD is a right!
