FIGHT FOR JOBS!
Attend Raleigh City Council Meeting
TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2010 1:00 PM
222 W. HARGETT STREET, RALEIGH, NC 27601
Over 30 milliion people in the US are unemployed or underemployed – this is an outrage! On May 18, 2010, join the Raleigh/Wake Co People’s Assembly in attending the Raleigh City Council meeting, where we will present our resolution and petition and demand that the City of Raleigh publicly express support and advocate for a public jobs program, and money for jobs to come to Raleigh.
WHAT IS A PUBLIC JOBS PROGRAM?
A public jobs program would put unemployed people back to work in the public sector providing services that are needed by the community. These services would include, but are not limited to: improving community infrastructure, construction, weatherization of low income homes, improving public transportation, food distribution (there is very little access to fresh food in Southeast Raleigh), childcare, after school programs and summer programs for youth, education, and healthcare. These are services which the community needs, and unemployed people would be put back to work providing these services. The private sector is not the solution to this economic crisis, and can not be seen as a solution.
