Join FIST and the Peoples Assembly In the Fight for JOBS!
Get on the BUS to Washington, D.C. on Sat. Oct. 2, 2010
Bail out the WORKERS….NOT Banks !
We need JOBS NOW !
In the middle of the worst unemployment crisis since the Great Depression, we all must build a struggle for JOBS NOW !
In 2008 , we voted for CHANGE and knew we had to do more than just vote at election time. A rising racist right-wing movement comprised of folks within Tea Party, Big Business, and their paid obstructionist representatives in Congress are blocking bill after bill to create jobs and get workers off the unemployment line. Here in NC, the PEOPLES ASSEMBLY( a grassroots coalition of community/ labor/ youth activists formed in 2008 around a PEOPLES AGENDA ) are hard at work making sure that even more youth, churches, communities and union brothers and sisters know whether our members of Congress have been working and voting for us or for Wall Street.
FIST has helped initiate a campaign in Raleigh working with the People’s Assembly and People’s Empowerment Movement to pressure the city to demand of the federal government a federally-funded public jobs program that would employ 30 million workers now! Its clear from our Peoples Assembly members visits to Represenatives Brad Miller, David Price and Sen. Burr and a few others they are moving too slow!
But there’s an even bigger movement nationwide developing to hold members of Congress accountable for their voting records on JOBS and all of us ….including you….must be a part of it. It’s called ONE NATION, a broad and diverse coalition that has come together to build a future with more jobs, not stubborn unemployment and a lost generation of youth. We are rallying around the fight for JOBS! All workers, youth, churches, community, neighborhood, and labor organizations must join us to fight for public service jobs that serve our community and reverse the dangerous economic course in the US.
ONE NATION includes our local community, union, and civil, human rights, faith, environmental and other progressive allies, united to call for:
- An economy that works for working people and our youth’s future;
- Good jobs, fair jobs, safe jobs and more jobs;
- Wall Street reform to end corporate greed;
- Quality education for every child;
- Reform of our broken immigration system;
- And restoring workers’ democratic human right & freedom to form unions and bargain collectively.
The Peoples Assembly is Pulling Our Community back together for Jobs and Social Justice !
On Sat. Oct. 2, 2010 tens of thousands of working people, young people, retirees, civil rights activists and many others will come together for a rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. On the same day-exactly one month before the fall elections-this social justice movement will hold its biggest campaign walk ever, taking our message door-to-door in targeted communities.
Together we will show this racist right wing movement and their obstructionists representatives in Congress that we are many and diverse, ….strong and united…..and we will fight together for good jobs and social justice now.
We urge you to be part of this Peoples Assembly mobilization and surge of strength to improve life for working people and our families. We are asking all of you to recruit co-workers, neighbors, youth, the unemployed , church and union members to march on Washington on Sat. Oct. 2, 2010.
